Insights 2009 celebrates the 20th exhibition of works by blind and visually impaired artists presented by the LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired in partnership with the San Francisco Arts Commission Gallery’s Art at City Hall program. Insights 2009 features 118 works in a variety of media by 38 artists, and offers a free audio tour. Audio tour voiceover is provided by local celebrities like Harry Denton of the Starlight Room, Mattin Noblia of Top Chef Season 6 and District 4 Supervisor Carmen Chu, Lyrics Born bass player Uriah Duffy, and Georgina Kleege - Author and Professor at UC Berkeley. (Click here for a complete list of Insights supporters and audio description volunteers).

States Supervisor Chu,
“Not only is the Insights exhibition compelling and visually stunning, the show’s commitment to accessibility encourages dialogue about what it means to make the arts accessible to people who are blind or visually impaired. I’m honored to be featured on the audio tour and also to serve on the Insights Honorary Committee.”

The LightHouse provides the free audio tour each year as part of its commitment to making the arts accessible to individuals with vision loss. In addition to descriptive audio, Braille and large print versions of all Insights materials, including the show’s catalog are available. Signage at the exhibition is overlaid in Braille, and nearly one-fourth of the works are touchable.

In addition to the juried works, Insights 2009 features solo shows from its 2008 Elva Iacono Vergari Prize winners Charles Blackwell, Quin Graddy and Bobbie Gray.
