LightHouse Director of Public Policy and Information Jessie Lorenz is a member of the U.S. women's Goalball team. The team will compete this August in Beijing. Recently, The US Association of Blind Atheletes, took the team to Malmo Sweden for the Malmo Lady Intercup. Eleven nations competed over a three day period, each vying to be the Champion and give themselves an extra boost before the Paralympics in August.
Jessie Wrote that "There were 12 teams at this tournament. We played every one we will face in Beijing except for Japan and Brazil. During the gold medal game Team USA was tied with China at the end of regulation play. We went into two three-minute overtime halves and remained tied at one point each. We went into a shootout where each player goes one-on-one until someone scores. We went through the entire line up of five players once. Finally we scored in the second round of one-on-one shootout play. This is highly unusual. This was certainly a good showing, and at the same time there is still a long road to travel before we can claim Paralympic gold."
